AC/DC Load & UPS System Testing

AC DC Load TestingStatic Power, Inc. provides load testing services for power quality critical power system; including UPS Systems, DC Power Systems, and all Battery types. We have extensive experience in a wide range of industries such as aerospace, medical and education.

System load testing procedures are used to determine, battery life, runtime availability, the integrity of UPS Power equipment, and DC Power Equipment.

AC/DC Load Testing

In addition to AC/DC Load Testing we perform IEEE Battery Acceptance testing as outlined below:

Valve Regulated Cells IEEE Capacity Testing Procedures:

Standard: 1188-2005 (valve regulated cells)
Type: Acceptance (new battery)
Pretest requirements

1. Equalizing charge "if recommended by Mfg" (not typical) to the Mfg. requirements
2. Check all battery connections and resistance readings
3. Read and record voltage of each cell/unit before test
4. Read and record 10% of cell/unit temperatures
5. Read and record overall battery terminal float voltage
6. Measure and record individual cell/unit *internal ohmic values prior to test
7. Take steps to isolate the battery to be tested from critical loads

Test profile

1. Test should meet a specific discharge rate and duration as published by the Mfg. and/or specification requirements

Procedure

1. Set up load bank and monitoring equipment to the requirements of "test profile"
2. Begin test while "logging" all data that includes overall voltage, current and all cell voltages simultaneously while maintaining test profile.
3. Observe the battery for intercell/unit connector or terminal heating.
4. At test end, determine the capacity of the battery using standard IEEE formulas.
5. Disconnect all test equipment and return system to normal service
6. Issue a detailed report with recommendations.

*internal ohmic measurements: the measurement of either the internal impedance, conductance, or resistance of battery cell/units.

The above is a general outline of the minimum requirements. Consult the IEEE Standards for details

Wet Lead Acid Cells IEEE Capacity Testing Procedures:

Standard: 450-2002 (wet lead acid cells)
Type: Acceptance (new battery)
Pretest requirements "Initial Conditions"

1. Equalizing charge if recommended by Mfg. Return to float voltage for minimum 72 hours, but less than 30 days prior to test
2. Check all battery connections and resistance readings
3. Record voltage and specific gravity of each cell just before test
4. Record 10% of cell electrolyte temperatures
5. Record overall battery voltage
6. Take steps to isolate the battery to be tested from critical loads

Test profile

1. Test should meet a specific discharge rate and duration as published by the Mfg. and/or specification requirements

Procedure

1. Set up load bank and monitoring equipment to the requirements of "test profile"
